A bill to amend title 38, United States Code, to provide for the payment of supplemental tuition allowances to certain veterans pursuing educational programs for the purposes of offsetting the differences in State educational costs, and to extend the delimiting period for veterans enrolled in educational programs.
Veterans' Educational Equity Act of 1977 - Provides for the payment of supplemental tuition allowances to certain eligible veterans. Stipulates that such allowance shall not exceed $1,000 per school year, with the veteran paying the first $400 of tuition and fees and the Veterans' Administration (VA) paying 67 percent of the next $1,500.
Sets forth application guidelines and the formula to be used by the VA in computing such supplemental tuition allowance.
Extends the delimiting period for veterans' educational assistance for eligible veterans in school during their last year of eligibility. Stipulates that such extension shall terminate: (1) when an eligible veteran finishes or drops out of school; or (2) 12 years from such veteran's discharge from active service.
