A bill to provide for a national highway safety campaign to vigorously promote the cause of highway safety through the use of mass media.
Highway Safety Education and Information Act - Directs the Secretary of Transportation, acting through the Administrator of the Federal Highway Administration, to carry out six pilot projects which are designed, through the use of television, to reduce highway fatalities and injuries.
Authorizes appropriations of $6,000,000 from the Highway Trust Fund to carry out such program.
Directs the Secretary, acting through the Administrator, at the conclusion of such projects to conduct a national highway safety campaign utilizing the mass media to inform the public on ways to reduce highway accidents.
Authorizes appropriations of $10,000,000 out of the Highway Trust Fund for such campaign.
Amends the Federal-Aid Highway Act of 1973 to direct the Secretary as part of the citizen participation study required under such Act to study the possible utilization of citizens band radios by the general public in traffic enforcement and accident reporting.
Authorizes appropriations of $5,000,000 for fiscal year 1979 to carry out such citizen participation study.
