A bill to provide that mining companies that discharge asbestos fibers into Lake Superior shall be required to pay for the cost of removal of such fibers from water used for public drinking purposes.

Stipulates that mining companies or related operations which have discharged amphibole asbestos fibers into Lake Superior shall be required to pay the cost of removing such fibers from water used for human consumption, under regulations promulgated by the Secretary of the Interior.

Imposes a civil penalty of up to $1,000 per day for failure to make any payment required under this Act or under regulations promulgated by the Secretary under this Act.
