A bill to provide financial assistance for research activities for the study of sudden infant death syndrome.
Sudden Infant Death Syndrome Act - Directs the Secretary of Health, Education, and Welfare to carry out a program to develop materials relating to sudden infant death syndrome and to disseminate such information and materials to persons providing health care, public safety officials, and to the public generally.
Allows the Secretary to make grants to public and nonprofit private entities, and to enter into contracts with public and private entities, for projects which include both the collection, analysis, and furnishing of information relating to the causes of the sudden infant death syndrome, and the provision of information and counseling to families affected by the sudden infant death syndrome.
Provides that no grant may be made or contract entered into under this Act unless an application therefor has been submitted to and approved by the Secretary.
Authorizes to be appropriated for the purpose of making payments pursuant to grants and contracts under this Act, $2,000,000 for the fiscal year ending June 30, 1975; $3,000,000 for the fiscal year ending June 30, 1976; and $4,000,000 for the fiscal year ending June 30, 1977.
