A bill to provide a program to improve the opportunity of students in elementary and secondary schools to study cultural heritages of various ethnic groups in the Nation.
Ethnic Heritage STudies Act - Authorizes the Commissioner of Education to arrange through grants to public and private nonprofit educational agencies and organizations for the establishment and operation of a number of ethnic heritage studies projects.
Provides that each project provided for under this Act shall: (1) develop curriculum materials for use in elementary and secondary schools which deal with the history, geography, society, economy, literature, art, music, drama, language, and general culture of the ethnic heritage or regional group of heritages with which the project is concerned, and the contributions of that ethnic heritage or regional group of heritages to the American heritage; (2) disseminate curriculum materials to permit their use in elementary and secondary schools throughout the nation; and (3) provide training for persons utilizing or preparing to utilize the curriculum materials developed under this Act.
Authorizes to be appropriated to carry out this title for fiscal year 1973 the sum of $20,000,000, and for fiscal year 1974, the sum of $30,000,000.
