To consolidate in a single independent agency in the executive branch the responsibilities regarding food safety, labeling, and inspection currently divided among several Federal agencies.
Safe Food Act of 1997 - Establishes in the executive branch an independent Food Safety Administration which shall administer and enforce the food safety laws.
Directs the President to terminate specified food safety-related Federal agencies to the extent their activities relate to the administration or enforcement of food safety laws.
