A bill to amend the Public Health Service Act to reauthorize certain injury control programs, and for other purposes.
Injury Control Program Reauthorization Act of 1990 - Amends the Public Health Service Act to direct the Secretary of Health and Human Services, through the Director of the Centers for Disease Control, to: (1) make grants or enter into cooperative agreements (currently, make grants) for research relating to injuries; (2) make grants to academic institutions for training injury control researchers; and (3) give emphasis, in injury control activities, to the dissemination of prevention information and control activities for elderly individuals and children. Authorizes the Secretary to work in cooperation with Federal, State, and local agencies to promote injury control, with public and private nonprofit organizations, and with universities through grants, contracts, and cooperative agreements.
Authorizes appropriations to carry out provisions relating to injury control.
Disabilities Prevention Act of 1990 - Amends the Public Health Service Act to direct the Secretary of Health and Human Services, through the Director of the Centers for Disease Control, to make grants, contracts, or cooperative agreements for the prevention of disabilities and secondary conditions resulting from disabilities.
Authorizes the Secretary to make such grants for: (1) coordinating prevention activities; (2) conducting demonstrations and interventions; (3) conducting surveillances and studies; (4) educating the public; and (5) subject to a limit of ten percent of amounts appropriated under this Act, educating and training health professionals and improving their clinical skills. Authorizes appropriations.
