A bill to authorize appropriations to the National Science Foundation for the fiscal years 1987 and 1988, and for other purposes.
National Science Foundation Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 1987 - Authorizes appropriations to the National Science Foundation (NSF) for FY 1987. Lists categories for which 1987 funds may be made available. Removes provisions for Assistant Directors of NSF.
Removes the limitation that requires the NSF to only award scholarships and graduate fellowships for scientific study or work within the limits of funds made available specifically for such purposes pursuant to appropriations under such Act.
Adds to the general authority of the NSF, during the five-year period beginning on the date of enactment of this Act, the authority to indemnify grantees, contractors, and subcontractors associated with the Ocean Drilling Program.
