A bill to amend the Communications Act of 1934 to require that, when any alcoholic beverage is advertised on television, radio, or cable, equivalent time shall be provided for public service announcements and programming regarding alcohol consumption and misuse.
Fairness in Alcohol Advertising Act of 1985 - Amends the Communications Act of 1934 to prohibit any radio or television licensee from broadcasting any alcoholic beverage advertisement unless equivalent time is made available for the broadcasting by responsible spokespersons of programming regarding the adverse effects of alcoholic beverage consumption and misuse. Provides that such programming shall not be taken into account in determining the extent to which any broadcast station is operating in the public interest, convenience, and necessity.
Requires a cable system operator to meet such an equal time requirement with respect to alcoholic beverage advertisements on programming subject to such operator's editorial control.
