A bill to amend the Motor Vehicle Information and Cost Savings Act by eliminating the administrative discretion to reduce the 27.5 miles per gallon fuel economy standard applicable to passenger automobile manufacturers, and for other purposes.
Automobile Fuel Economy Standards Act of 1984 - Amends the Motor Vehicle Information and Cost Savings Act to state that the average fuel economy standard for passenger automobiles manufactured after model year 1984 shall be a minimum of 27.5 miles per gallon.
Authorizes the Secretary of Transportation to amend such average fuel economy standard for model year 1986 and beyond to a level determined by the Secretary to be the maximum feasible average fuel economy level for the particular model year. Prohibits the Secretary from amending such standard to a level below 27.5 miles per gallon for any model year.
