A bill to provide for the statutory designation of the position of Assistant Secretary of the Interior for Indian Affairs, eliminate the position of Commissioner of Indian Affairs, make conforming amendments, repeal unnecessary provisions of law referring to the Commissioner of Indian Affairs, and for other purposes.

Eliminates the statutory position of Commissioner of Indian Affairs in the Department of the Interior. Replaces it with the statutory position of Assistant Secretary of the Interior for Indian Affairs.

Makes technical and conforming amendments.

Considers presidential appointments of persons as Assistant Secretary for the Department of the Interior responsible for Indian affairs to be appointments as Assistant Secretary for Indian Affairs.
