A bill to amend part B of title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965 to provide that the Guaranteed Student Loan Program be available only to students having need for such assistance.
Guaranteed Student Loan Assistance Amendments of 1982 - Amends title IV, part B (Federal, State, and Private Programs of Low-Interest Insured Loans to Students in Institutions of Higher Education) to require eligible institutions to provide the lender with a statement evidencing a determination of need for a loan and the amount of such need in order for a student to qualify for a portion of an interest payment under the guaranteed student loan program. (Currently, such a statement of need is required only for a student whose family has an adjusted gross income greater than $30,000.)
Repeals provisions which provided that an amount of need between $500 and $1,000 would qualify a student for a $1,000 loan under the guaranteed student loan program.
