A bill to provide for standards for the application of the Freedom of Information Act exemption for classified information.
Freedom of Information Protection Act of 1982 - Amends the classified information exemption under the Freedom of Information Act to require that matters withheld from disclosure: (1) be reasonably expected to cause "identifiable damage" to national security; and (2) satisfy a balancing test so that "the need to protect the information outweighs the public interest in disclosure."
Limits Federal court review of an agency's decision to withhold classified information based on the balancing test.
