Amends the Federal criminal code to authorize a verdict of "guilty but mentally ill" even if such illness would not constitute legal insanity.
Permits the court to impose on a defendant found guilty but mentally ill any sentence which the court can impose on a defendant convicted of such offense. Allows treatment of the defendant for mental illness during the term of sentence.
