A bill to authorize the Attorney General to make grants to States and to units of local government to provide general salary payments for the purpose of providing more effective law enforcement by police officers.
Law Enforcement Officers' Salary Assistance Act of 1982 - Directs the Attorney General to make formula grants to State and local governments for general salary payments to police officers hired after enactment of this Act or for overtime service by any officer.
Establishes a discretionary grant program for general salary payments to police offices during law enforcement emergencies.
Requires the Attorney General to report annually to the President and Congress on the grant programs. Authorizes appropriations for FY 1982 through FY 1985.
