A bill to limit governmental search and seizure of materials possessed by persons involved in First Amendment Activities, to provide a remedy for persons aggrieved by violations of the provisions of this Act, and for other purposes.
First Amendment Privacy Protection Act of 1979 - Prohibits government officers and employees from searching for or seizing any work product or documentary materials possessed by a person for public dissemination in a book, newspaper, broadcast, or other similar form of public communication. Specifies exceptions to such prohibition. Provides a civil cause of action for persons aggrieved by an unlawful search or seizure against any governmental unit and State employees or officers.
