A bill to designate certain lands in the State of Virginia as wilderness, to limit the designation of such lands as Class I for purposes of the Clean Air Act, to permit continued oil and gas exploration, development, and leasing in such areas, and for other purposes.
Virginia Wilderness Act of 1980 - Designates as wilderness and as components of the National Wilderness Preservation System certain lands in the George Washington National Forest and the Jefferson National Forest in Virginia. Directs the Secretary of Agriculture to provide for the exploration for and leasing of oil and gas on such lands as if such lands were not designated as wilderness.
Designates such lands as class II areas for purposes of provisions of the Clean Air Act concerning the prevention of significant deterioration of air quality. Prohibits the redesignation of such lands as class I areas without the approval of the State of Virginia and the Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency.
