A bill to amend the Fishery Conservation and Management Act of 1976 to provide for expedite review of fishery management plans and for other purposes.
Fishery Conservation and Management Act Amendments of 1979 - Amends the Fishery Conservation and Management Act of 1976 to include the State of Alaska within the Pacific Fishery Management Council. Requires the Council to have 15 voting members including one from Alaska and two from each of the other member States.
Requires the Secretary of Commerce: (1) to approve or disapprove a fishery management plan or amendment thereto within 45 days after receiving it; and (2) to notify the Regional Fishery Management Council which submitted such plan or amendment of the reasons for disapproval within 15 days of making such a decision. Declares that such a plan or amendment will automatically take effect if the Secretary fails to take such action within 60 days after receiving the plan or amendment.
