A bill to designate certain lands for inclusion in the National Wilderness Preservation System.
Withdraws certain lands in Alaska referred to in H.R. 39 from all forms of appropriation under public land laws, from location and entry under United States mining laws, and from selection by Alaska under any other law for the purpose of providing interim protection pending congressional action. Specifies that such withdrawal shall take effect December 18, 1978. Limits such withdrawal period to one year from such date.
Directs the Secretary of the Interior to manage such areas in a manner consistent with such purpose.
Stipulates that this Act shall not interfere with any timber harvest permitted under any existing national forest timber sale contract nor reduce the potential yield.
Stipulates that this Act shall not enlarge or diminish the authority of specified Federal officials under certain existing laws.
