Amends Title XVIII (Medicare) of the Social Security Act to expand the coverage of the supplementary medical insurance program to include the services of physician extenders, nurse practitioners, and the clinical staff of community mental health centers to the extent recognized under State law.
Authorizes full reimbursement to States when services are rendered in health manpower shortage areas and 15 percent reimbursement when services are rendered outside of a shortage area.
Limits reimbursement to the cost of the services of two physician extenders or two nurse practitioners per supervising physician.
