Amends the Social Security Amendments of 1972 to authorize the Secretary of Health, Education, and Welfare to develop and carry out demonstration and evaluation projects to determine whether the use of computer-based medical information patient care systems by hospitals and skilled nursing facilities would enable such providers to manage their facilities more efficiently, thereby reducing the costs of providing health care without adversely affecting the quality of services.
Provides for the funding of such projects from specified funds and appropriations established by the Social Security Act.
Requires the Secretary to submit to Congress a full report on such demonstration and evaluation projects.
