A bill to amend titles XVIII and XIX of the Social Security Act to require each hospital providing patients with inpatient hospital services under the programs or plans under such titles to furnish each such patient with written notice of charges for particular inpatient hospital services provided by the hospital to the patient.
Truth in Hospital Billing Act - Amends Titles XVIII (Medicare) and XIX (Medicaid) of the Social Security Act to require hospitals with 50 or more beds providing service under such Titles to furnish patients with written notice of charges for inpatient hospital services within ten days after the last day of each service period.
Requires hospitals to include in such notice: (1) a brief description of the particular service; (2) a statement of the duration or quantity of the service; (3) a statement of the unit basis for computing charges; and (4) a statement of the total charge.
Defines the term "service period" as a period of 30 consecutive days during which inpatient hospital services were provided.
