A bill to amend sections 5202 and 5232 of title 10, United States Code, relating to the appointment to the grades of general and lieutenant general of Marine Corps officers designated for appropriate higher commands or for performance of duties of great importance and responsibility.
Deletes provisions of current Federal law requiring a Marine Corps active duty strength of 200,000 before the Assistant Commandant of the Corps can hold the rank of general.
Provides that the determination to retire, separate, or place on temporary disability general officers, Medical Corps officers, or medical officers of the Air Force because of disability, must be approved by the Secretary of Defense on the recommendation of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health and Environment.
