A bill to promote more efficient use of the Nation's construction resources, to foster the preservation of buildings of historic or architectural significance, and to enhance the social and economic environment within and surrounding Federal office buildings.
Public Buildings Cooperative Use Act - Directs the Administrator of General Services to: (1) acquire and utilize space in suitable buildings of historic, architectural or cultural significance; (2) give preference to the purchase and use of space in other existing buildings; (3) encourage the location of commercial, cultural, educational, and recreational facilities and activities within or near public buildings; (4) provide facilities which encourage pedestrian traffic around, into, and through public buildings; and (5) encourage the public use of public buildings.
Requires that whenever the Administrator undertakes a survey of the public buildings needs of the Federal Government within a geographical area, he shall request that within 60 days, the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation identify any existing buildings within such geographical areas which are of architectural, historical, or cultural interest and which would be suitable, whether or not in need of repair, alteration, or addition, for acquisition or purchase to meet the public buildings needs of the Federal Government.
