Transportation Statistics Act

Transportation Statistics Act - Establishes a National Center for Transportation Statistics within the office of the Secretary of Transportation. Declares the purpose of the Center to be to assure the collection and dissemination of statistics and other data related to transportation in the United States and other nations.

Sets forth as duties of the Center: (1) the collection and reporting of statistics on transportation in the United States and in the foreign commerce of the United States, including statistics on the movement of passengers and freight by commercial and private models; (2) the coordination of all Federal transportation statistics programs; (3) the provision of assistance to other Federal agencies and State and local transportation agencies in improving their statistical operations; (4) the development of standardized data collection methods; and (5) the review of foreign transportation activities.

Directs the establishment of an Advisory Council on Transportation Statistics, with members to be appointed by the Secretary of Transportation.

Authorizes the Director of the Center to require all persons engaged in commercial transportation to submit such reports and statistics as the Center may require.

Authorizes appropriations necessary to carry out this Act.
