Authorizes cost-of-living increases in supplemental security income benefits under title XVI (Grants to States for Aid to the Aged, Blind, and Disabled) of the Social Security Act whenever an equivalent cost-of-living adjustment is made under title II (Old Age, Survivor's, and Disability Insurance) of such Act.
Authorizes the Secretary of Health, Education, and Welfare to grant financial assistance to individuals eligible for Social Security whose housing expenses exceed one-third of his or her annual income. Limits such assistance to the lesser of: (1) the amount by which such individual's housing expenses exceed one-third of his or her income; or (2) $600.
Permits individuals receiving supplemental security benefits to elect to retain food stamp eligibility in lieu of receiving the bonus value of food stamps in the form of a supplementary payment increase.
Directs the Secretary to provide financial assistance within 30 days to Social Security recipients whose benefit checks or the cash proceeds thereof are lost or stolen, where the loss or theft has been promptly reported to and verified by appropriate local law enforcement officials.
