A bill to amend section 1979 of the Revised Statutes (42 U.S.C. 1983) to establish a 1-year statute of limitations on actions under such section against certain law enforcement officers.

States that an action for deprivation of rights against a law enforcement officer or other citizen of the United States under the Civil Rights Act may not be commenced more than one year after the cause of action arises, if a person seeking to commence such an action had a reasonable opportunity to commence it during such year.
