States that it is the purpose of this Act to make unlawful willful assaults upon policemen, firemen, and other law enforcement officials for the purpose of outlawing conduct which has a deleterious effect on the free flow of interstate and foreign commerce.
Provides that whoever forcibly assaults, strikes, wounds, or discharges a firearm or other explosive at, or otherwise offers violence to any fireman or law enforcement officer on account of the performance of the official duties of such fireman or law enforcement officer shall be subject to imprisonment for not more than ten years or a fine of not more than $10,000, or both; and if personal injury results shall be subject to imprisonment for not more than twenty years or a fine of not more than $20,000, or both; and if death results shall suffer the death penalty unless the jury qualifies its verdict.
