A bill to amend the Motor Vehicle Information and Cost Savings Act to provide authority for enforcing prohibitions against motor vehicle odometer tampering to authorize appropriations.
Anti-Odometer Tampering Enforcement Act - Provides that no person shall advertise, sell, or install any device which causes an odometer to register any mileage other than the true mileage driven. Directs that no person shall reset or disconnect the odometer of any motor vehicle with intent to change the number of miles registered or to drive a vehicle with the odometer disconnected with intent to defraud.
Sets forth penalties for persons convicted of violating this Act. Authorizes impoundments, inspections, and investigations in order to enforce this Act. Requires dealers and distributors to make such reports as the Secretary of Transportation may need to determine whether such persons are in compliance with this Act.
Authorizes the Secretary to hold hearings and issue subpenas. Provides for the obtaining of administrative warrants.
Authorizes the appropriation of such sums as necessary to carry out this Act and the Motor Vehicle Information and Cost Savings Act.
