Authorizes the head of any agency, with the concurrence of such agent as the President may designate, to determine and fix the minimum and maximum limits of age within which an original appointment may be made to a position as a law enforcement officer or firefighter.
Defines the terms law enforcement officer and firefighter.
States that a law enforcement officer or a firefighter who is otherwise eligible for immediate retirement shall be separated from the service on the last day of the month in which he becomes 55 years of age and completes 20 years of service if then over that age. Authorizes the head of an agency. when in his judgment the public interest so requires, to exempt an employee from automatic separation until the employee becomes 60 years of age.
