Provides that individuals be apprised of records concerning them which are maintained by Government agencies. Requires each agency to (1) notify such individuals by mail of such records, (2) maintain an accurate record of the names of all persons inspecting such records, (3) refrain from disclosing the record without permission, (4) permit any individual to inspect his record; (5) permit the individual to supplement the information which he deems pertinent to his record and (6) remove erroneous information of any kind. (Adds 5 U.S.C. 522a)
Excludes from the provisions of this Act those records required by Executive order to be kept secret, investigatory files compiled for law enforcement purposes, and agency memorandums not available to a party in litigation with an agency.
Establishes a Federal Privacy Board to consider complaints of violations of this Act. Sets forth the composition of such Board.
