Provides that, notwithstanding any other provision of law, in determining eligibility for retirement from the Armed Forces and in computing the amount of retired pay, a member or former member of the Armed Forces shall be credited with a period of service equal to any period of time during the Vietnam Conflict he was in a missing status and any such period of time credited under this Act shall be in addition to credit for such period of time allowed for such purposes under any other provision of law. Provides that a member may elect to be credited with all or any portion of the period referred to in the Act, but such election must be made within two years after his return to the jurisdiction of the United States following the termination of his missing status.
Provides that an employee shall, if he elects within the two year period, be given civil service credit for a period of time equal to any period of time during the Vietnam Conflict he was in a missing status, and any such period of time credited under this Act shall be in addition to credit for such period of time allowed under any other provision of title 5, United States Code.
Authorizes the Secretary of Defense to provide a special medical care program for members and former members of the Armed Forces of the United States who were in a missing status for any period of time during the Vietnam Conflict. Authorizes the Secretary to provide special medical care programs for the dependents of such members and former members.
