Revises the Federal Railroad Safety Act by authorizing the appropriation of such sums as may be necessary to carry out the provisions of such Act.
Repeals Federal Acts relating to safety ash pans (45 U.S.C. 17-21), block-signal systems and appliances (45 U.S.C. 35), investigation and testing of railroad safety appliances (45 U.S.C. 36), and inspection of mail cars (45 U.S.C. 37).
Sets forth penalties for the violation of various regulations relating to railroads.
Provides that it shall be unlawful for any railroad carrier to use or permit to be used on its line any locomotive unless the locomotive, its tender, and all parts and appurtenances thereof are in proper condition and safe to operate. Sets forth penalties for violation of this Act.
