A bill to authorize the U.S. Commissioner of Education to make grants to elementary schools and other educational institutions for the conduct of special educational programs and activities, and for other related educational purposes.
Drug Abuse Education Act - Directs the Commissioner of Education to make grants to: (1) institutions of higher education and other public or private agencies, institutions, or organizations for the conduct of special educational programs and activities concerning the use of drugs; and (2) State educational agencies in assisting local agencies in the planning, development, and implementation of drug abuse education.
Authorizes appropriations of $3,000,000 for the fiscal year ending June 30, 1973, $7,000,000 for the fiscal year ending June 30, 1974, $10,000,000 for the fiscal year ending June 30, 1975, and $12,000,000 for each of the next two fiscal years for such grants.
Directs the Secretary of Health, Education, and Welfare to appoint an Advisory Committee on Drug Abuse Education to advise on the administration of such programs.
Authorizes the Secretary of Health, Education, and Welfare and the Attorney General to render technical assistance to local educational agencies and institutions of higher learning in the development and implementation of programs of drug abuse education.
