A bill to establish the Ocmulgee Mounds National Park and Preserve in the State of Georgia, and for other purposes.
Ocmulgee Mounds National Park and Preserve Establishment Act
This bill establishes the Ocmulgee Mounds National Park and Preserve in Georgia.
With respect to the national park, the bill redesignates the Ocmulgee Mounds National Historical Park as the Ocmulgee Mounds National Park. The Department of the Interior may acquire land within the designated park area by purchase from a willing seller, donation, or exchange.
With respect to the national preserve, Interior may acquire land within the designated preserve area by purchase from a willing seller, donation, or exchange. Upon a determination by Interior that sufficient land has been acquired, the bill establishes the Ocmulgee Mounds National Preserve.
The bill establishes a council to advise Interior with respect to the development and implementation of the national park and preserve. Interior and the advisory council must develop a general management plan for the preservation and use of the national park and preserve. The plan must provide for the interpretation and preservation of cultural resources on the land, including burial grounds and other sites that are sacred to the Muscogee (Creek) Nation, and an inventory of important cultural landscapes.
Interior must allow hunting within the preserve and fishing on the waters of the national park and preserve in accordance with applicable law.
All rights, title, and interest of the United States in the approximately 126 acres of land owned by the Muscogee (Creek) Nation are taken into trust for the benefit of the tribe.
