A bill to require agencies with working dog programs to implement the recommendations of the Government Accountability Office relating to the health and welfare of working dogs, and for other purposes.
Working Dog Health and Welfare Act of 2023
This act requires federal agencies with working dog programs, and contractors managing such programs, to implement the recommendations of a Government Accountability Office report titled Working Dogs: Federal Agencies Need to Better Address Health and Welfare and published in October 2022.
Further, the Department of State must take steps to ensure that donations of working dogs provided to foreign partners by the State Department are executed and monitored according to those recommendations.
Referred to the Committee on Oversight and Accountability, and in addition to the Committee on Foreign Affairs, for a period to be subsequently determined by the Speaker, in each case for consideration of such provisions as fall within the jurisdiction of the committee concerned.
