To amend the Food and Nutrition Act of 2008 to allow households with children with chronic medical conditions to deduct allowable medical expenses incurred by such household member that exceeds $35 per month.
SNAP Access for Medically Vulnerable Children Act of 2023
This bill expands benefits under the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) for households with children under the age of 18 who have chronic medical conditions.
Specifically, the bill revises the excess medical expense deduction under SNAP to allow households to deduct allowable medical expenses in excess of $35 per month incurred for such children from their incomes in calculating SNAP benefits. Currently, the excess medical expense deduction under SNAP only allows qualified households with an elderly or disabled member to deduct such expenses.
