To amend the State Department Basic Authorities Act of 1956 to establish in the Department of State a Chief Diversity Officer and the Foreign Service Act of 1980 to promote increased diversity in the Foreign Service, and for other purposes.
Diversity and Inclusion at the Department of State Act
This bill establishes the role of Chief Diversity Officer in the Department of State, modifies promotion, training, and mentorship at the State Department, and authorizes the submission of gap memos prior to a performance evaluation. A gap memo is a written record indicating and explaining an employment gap that is due to personal circumstances.
