To expressly provide for the extraterritorial application of the Federal bribery and illegal gratuity statute to the President and other covered officials.
Safeguarding Government from Foreign Corruption Act
This bill amends the federal criminal code to specify that a person, regardless of the country of his or her citizenship, may be convicted of an offense involving bribery of public officials based on conduct occurring outside the United States, in certain circumstances.
A violation of this bill constitutes a high crime and misdemeanor under the U.S. Constitution.
