To authorize the Secretary of Transportation to make grants to assist units of local government in developing and implementing plans, known as Vision Zero plans, to eliminate transportation-related fatalities and serious injuries, and for other purposes.
Vision Zero Act of 2017
This bill authorizes the Department of Transportation to award grants to a city, town, township, borough, county, parish, district, village, or other political subdivision of a state to develop a Vision Zero plan to eliminate transportation-related fatalities and serious injuries in its jurisdiction within a specified timeframe, not to exceed 20 years.
The Department may award grants to up to five entities serving such jurisdictions, with at least 25% of grant funds going to entities that serve a jurisdiction with a population of under 200,000. The federal share of projects costs shall not exceed 80%.
