To make an attack on a police officer a hate crime, and for other purposes.
Blue Lives Matter Act of 2016
This bill amends the federal criminal code by expanding hate crimes to include an offense for knowingly causing, or attempting to cause, bodily injuries to individuals because they are police officers or perceived to be police officers. The bill subjects an individual convicted of such an offense to a prison term of up to 10 years, a fine, or both. If death results, or the offense includes kidnapping, aggravated sexual abuse, or an attempt to commit such crimes, or an attempt to kill, the offender is subject to a prison term for life, a fine, or both.
