Families and Communities Involved in Improving Our Schools Act - Amends title I (Improving the Academic Achievement of the Disadvantaged) of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 to require local educational agencies (LEAs) receiving school improvement funds to engage families and community members in the selection, development, and implementation of measures to improve the performance of schools identified as needing improvement, corrective action, or restructuring due to their failure to make adequate yearly progress (AYP) toward state academic performance standards.
Directs the Secretary of Education to issue regulations that detail research-based family and community engagement strategies that LEAs and schools may utilize with school improvement funds.
