To amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to expand the permissible use of health savings accounts to include health insurance payments and to increase the dollar limitation for contributions to health savings accounts, and for other purposes.
Health Savings Account Expansion Act of 2009 - Amends Internal Revenue Code provisions relating to health savings accounts (HSAs) to: (1) eliminate the high deductible health plan coverage requirement for HSA participants; (2) eliminate the prohibition against purchasing health insurance from an HSA; and (3) increase to $8,000 the maximum dollar amount of the tax deduction for payments to an HSA.
Eliminates after 2009 the tax exclusions for employee benefits under an employer-provided accident or health plan and the tax deductions for the health insurance costs of self-employed individuals, for medical and dental expenses, and for employer payments for employee medical care.
