To establish a grants program to assist States and units of local governments to establish and expand programs that employ global positioning system technologies as alternative sentencing options, and for other purposes.
GPS Protection & Safety Act of 2009 - Directs the Attorney General to: (1) make grants to states and local governments to establish or expand global positioning systems to monitor convicted sex offenders, individuals subject to a protection or restraining order, and individuals charged or convicted of driving while intoxicated as an alternative to incarcerating such individuals; and (2) provide for a public service awareness campaign on the importance of reporting instances of stalking.
