A resolution recognizing the importance of increasing awareness of autism spectrum disorders, supporting programs for increased research and improved treatment of autism, and improving training and support for individuals with autism and those who care for individuals with autism.

Expresses support for: (1) establishing April as National Autism Awareness Month; and (2) increasing Federal funding for autism research.

Commends the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) for the implementation of the Children's Health Act of 2000.

Stresses the need to begin early intervention services soon after an individual has been diagnosed with autism.

Expresses support for the Federal Government funding 40 percent of the costs needed to educate children with disabilities.

Recognizes the shortage of appropriately trained teachers and the importance of worker training programs that meet the needs of developmentally disabled individuals.
