To require the Secretary of Veterans Affairs to establish a personal identification number for each veteran in order to help preserve the confidentiality of Department of Veterans Affairs information on veterans, and for other purposes.
Veterans Identification Protection Act - Directs the Secretary of the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to: (1) establish a national database of each veteran who receives or applies for benefits under laws administered by the Secretary; (2) assign to each veteran a four-digit personal identification number; and (3) take such steps as necessary to provide that any entity entering into a commercial transaction with a veteran that includes the extension of credit or any other thing of value to verify the veteran's identity through the use of that number. Makes such an entity liable for attorney's fees and injuries incurred as a result of failure to verify a veteran's identity pursuant to this Act.
