Directs the Secretary of Transportation to issue regulations setting forth increased average automobile fuel economy standards determined on the basis of the maximum feasible average fuel economy levels.
Requires such standards to take effect successively over several vehicle model years not exceeding 15 vehicle model years.
Directs the Secretary to take into consideration, when prescribing such regulations, alternative fuel technologies that could be used to reduce dependence on crude-oil-derived fuels.
