To protect America's food supply and facilitate lawful importation of safe and unadulterated food products.
Importation of Safe Food Act of 2004 - Amends the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act to require food facilities engaged in manufacturing, processing, packing, or holding food for export from the United States to register with the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
Provides that if the Secretary is unable to verify that an article of food is from a registered foreign facility then such article shall be held at its point of entry and prohibited from being delivered to the appropriate importer, owner, or consignee until such foreign facility is registered.
Modifies the content of the prior notice of imported food shipments.
