Summary

Microbicide Development Act of 2001 - Amends the Public Health Service Act to direct the Director of the Office of AIDS Research to expand, intensify, and coordinate the activities of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases with respect to research on the development of microbicides to prevent the transmission of HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases.

Directs the Secretary of Health and Human Services to expand, intensify, and coordinate the activities of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention with respect to research on microbicides to prevent the transmission of HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases.
