H.R. 1775 — Anti-Gang Violence Act of 2001

Summary

Anti-Gang Violence Act of 2001 - Amends the Federal criminal code to: (1) make it unlawful for any person to recruit another to participate as a member in certain criminal street gang activities; and (2) provide criminal penalties for violations. Authorizes a court, when sentencing a person for such a violation, to hold such person liable for the costs of housing, maintaining, and treating a minor until the minor attains 18 years of age.

Increases penalties for the use of minors to: (1) distribute drugs; or (2) commit Federal offenses that are crimes of violence.
